SOMEWHERE IN…
The Scottish Highlands
Soaring mountains, dazzling lochs, sweeping glens, tumbling waterfalls and crumbling castles… The Scottish Highlands hold a special allure for most travellers, their spectacular combination of ancient history and breathtaking landscapes offering an unforgettable trip.
These days, you can add boutique hotels, stylish eateries, and boujee coffee shops to that list, alongside a rich culture that encompasses whisky, music, and adventure.
All in, the Scottish Highlands are the perfect road trip combination.
We’ve called this vast area home for five years (since moving from Edinburgh), and the Scottish Highlands remain as awe-inspiring as ever, if busier – more than ever, there is a need for visitors to tread lightly.
With that in mind, we've personally gathered our list of the best places to visit in the Scottish Highlands — consider this your carefully curated guide for your next visit to this magical landscape.
HIGHLAND LOCATIONS
Only a short journey from central Scotland, you’ll find the wild and rugged Western Highlands, home to magnificent Glencoe, the outdoorsy town of Fort William, iconic Glenfinnan and its soaring viaduct, and beachy gems like Arisaig and Morar and their strings of silvery sands.
We also love lesser-visited Ardnamurchan, a remote peninsula home to whisky distilleries, remote lighthouses, and properly wild beaches.
Go further north, the Highlands continue, embracing vast wilderness and soaring mountainscapes around Torridon and further into Sutherland, Caithness, and the ever-popular NC500.
Meanwhile, to the east, you’ll find the thriving city of Inverness and Loch Ness. And on the coast, charming and lesser-visited seaside towns like Dornoch, Cromarty, and the Black Isle.
