When it comes to finding the best Fort William campsites, picking the right one can make all the difference to your campervan or motorhome trip. I spend most weekends exploring the Scottish Highlands in my camper, and after a recent few weeks based in Fort William, I’ve narrowed it down to three standout campsites that I’d happily return to again and again.
Whether you're after something peaceful and scenic or a more social site with onsite dining and easy access to town, there's a spot in or around Fort William that’s just right for you. With epic views, well-kept facilities, and proximity to the town’s brilliant pubs and restaurants, these campsites are ideal bases for your Highland adventures.
Better yet, you’re surrounded by some of the region’s most iconic sights, and Ben Nevis, Glenfinnan, and Glencoe are all within easy reach. And with local walking trails straight from your pitch, this area isn’t just a stopover. It’s a destination in its own right.
Of course, when you’re travelling in your home on wheels, you want more than just a scenic view. Good facilities matter, from motorhome service points and hot showers to clean loos, electric hook-ups, WiFi, and perhaps even a small shop for essentials.
All of the campsites listed below do offer tent pitches, but since we rarely travel that way ourselves, this guide is written with campervan, motorhome, and caravan travellers in mind.
In this guide, I’ll walk you through the best Fort William campsites, including what to expect, what makes each one special, and which site might suit your travel style best.

Travel tip: While it’s often possible to turn up and ask for a pitch, I highly recommend booking in advance, especially at weekends or during the busy summer months. I’ve seen all of these campsites fully booked, and it’s not a gamble I’d take. That said, call ahead on the day and sites will do their best to get a pitch for you.
Essentials for Camping in Fort William
Before you pitch up, make sure you're well-prepared. All of the Fort William campsites we recommend are at least a 10-minute drive (or around a 40-minute walk) from the nearest shop, so it’s worth stocking up on supplies ahead of time.
In summer, midges can be relentless in the Highlands. It’s wise to pack a good midge repellent spray, a midge net for your face, and - if you’re in a campervan - a midge lamp for evenings.
And of course, be ready for all kinds of weather! The Highlands are famously unpredictable, so waterproofs and plenty of warm layers are essential, even in summer.
Finally, the town’s best restaurants and buzzy pubs are a short journey away if you’re looking for local food and drinks and traditional Highland hospitality.
Fort William Campsites For Motorhomes & Campervans
If you’re looking for the ultimate Scottish Highlands adventure, here’s a roundup of the best Fort William campsites for motorhomes and campervans:
1. Glen Nevis Campsite
Best for: Highland scenery, Ben Nevis, and easy access to Fort William.
Location: Glen Nevis
Price per night: from £35
This sprawling campsite sits right in the heart of Glen Nevis, surrounded by dramatic Highland scenery. It’s ideal for campervans and motorhomes, but there’s accommodation for everyone - think glamping pods, grassy camping fields, and spacious pitches with mountain views.
If you’re planning to hike Ben Nevis or want to spend time outdoors, this is hands-down the best campsite in Fort William.
The trailhead for the UK’s highest mountain is just a few hundred metres away, the West Highland Way passes through, there’s an incredible riverside walk, and it’s a short drive to the beautiful Steall Waterfall. All things considered, this Fort William campsite is a perfectly positioned base for walkers.
Glen Nevis Campsite is one of the largest in the area, with four separate fields and ample space for motorhomes and campervans. Pitches are generous (perfect if you’re travelling with an awning) and come with 16-amp electric hook-ups as standard. Fully serviced options are also available for those who prefer a hassle-free experience.
Facilities here are excellent. The main service point is well-designed and easy to use, and you’ll find toilet and shower blocks dotted throughout the site.
The location is one of the biggest draws. With the mountains on your doorstep, riverside strolls, forest trails, and more strenuous hikes are all within walking distance. Fort William town centre is around 10 minutes by bus or a pleasant 45-minute walk.
It’s also one of the friendliest campsites we’ve stayed at near Fort William.
The staff are full of local insight and always happy to help. There’s a great range of on-site amenities, too, including a restaurant, bar, play park, electric bike hire, and a really excellent food truck for breakfast and dinner.
But my favourite part of this campsite? The brilliant Highland Cows tour on the local farm.
One of my favourite features was the on-site shop, a genuine saviour if you don’t fancy heading into town. It’s well stocked with local produce and Highland treats. The Great Glen charcuterie, Lochaber Larder meats, and locally made fresh croissants were real standouts.
2. Ben Nevis Holiday Park
Best for: a relaxed park with great facilities, plus a great location.
Location: Fort William
Price per night: tents from £14 / tourers from £32
Ben Nevis Holiday Park is one of the best Fort William campsites if you're looking for easy access to town. Just a five-minute drive from the centre, it’s also served by a local bus route and has a handy cycle path nearby.
The site strikes a nice balance between holiday park convenience and a relaxed campsite feel. It’s family- and pet-friendly, with peaceful riverside walks right from your pitch — a lovely setting to unwind after a day of exploring.
As a holiday park, it offers a mix of accommodation: self-catering lodges, a tent field with optional electric hook-ups, and spacious pitches for campervans and motorhomes. There’s also a small café on site for snacks and light bites.
A quick note on the name, which I think is a bit misleading. Despite the title, this isn’t the closest campsite to Ben Nevis itself. If proximity to the mountain is your top priority, you’ll want the first site on this list. Still, Ben Nevis Holiday Park has its own appeal, with riverside trails, access to the Corpach marina and beach, and a flat, scenic cycle route leading straight into town.
3. Linnhe Lochside Holidays
Best for: peaceful holiday park, family-friendly, and waterfront location.
Location: Corpach, near Fort William
Price per night: from £34
Just a 15-minute drive from Fort William town centre, Linnhe Lochside Holidays feels a world away. This peaceful lochside campsite offers a genuine sense of escape, while remaining close enough for a trip into town.
The facilities here are excellent, with plenty of hot showers and a small onsite shop for essentials. But what really sets this Fort William campsite apart is its unbeatable location on the shores of Loch Eil. There’s a private beach and slipway, making it easy to get out on the water, whether you're up for a swim, paddleboarding, canoeing, or just fancy a relaxed beach barbecue.
Pitches for campervans and motorhomes are hardstanding, level, and generously spaced, many with beautiful views across the loch.
Enjoy the best campsites in Fort William
In my opinion, staying a stay in a Fort William campsite is one of the best ways to experience the Highlands. Whether you have a tent or campervan, you’re sure to love the gorgeous views that surround each site.
Expect great facilities and peaceful locations when it comes to the campsites on our list, providing spacious pitches and a friendly atmosphere.
