Hi there, I’m Lesley, a 30-something, coffee obsessed, freelance travel writer from Scotland, content creator, and the person behind Wander Somewhere.

I started this travel blog after a year of travelling around Scotland, sun soaked Spain, and the wild Portugal coast to name a few.

Originally it was a place to share the dreamy destinations & beautiful stays I discovered on my travels: the slower pace of life, nature, the unpretenscious luxury of boutique stays.

But since then this space has grown into so much more.

What was a travel diary is now a full-time treasure hunt for remarkable places that are good for the soul.

About…

Travel Style…

Slow destinations

Places we can wander slowly: quaint villages, historic towns, charming cities, & cosy cafes.

Unpretentious luxury

Touches of luxury are our thing but we love cosy + comfy even more; design led stays that don’t mind dusty birkens or muddy boots.

Nature

Think achievable outdoor adventures and time in nature, like picturesque walks, coastal hikes, and plenty of fresh air.

About the blog…

I believe that adventure is good for the soul - and the best travel experiences are found in unexpected places.

But I also believe booking your perfect getaway should be oh-so-simple AND crafted uniquely for you. Which is why this travel blog has a mission.

Here, I share location guides & custom itineraries to help you plan truly exceptional trips. And because we’re all about authentic places, hidden gems, mindful travel, and boutique stays, we stay clear of generic packages and generic tick lists.

My travel style influences every itinerary you’ll find on the blog - a blend of historic towns, pretty villages, cosy cafes, picturesque walks, off the beaten track gems, and road trips.

And at the end of the day I love a boutique, quietly lux stay, preferably with a big bed, fluffy towels, and big tub. Oh, and really good places to eat!

Packed full of wonderful places, photos, stories, & handpicked stays, use these guides to plan your next trip.

Our readers…

Wander Somewhere began as a creative outlet, but along the way, it evolved into a much bigger platform and these days over 56,000 people read this blog every month - and our community continues to steadily grow.

My Story

Once upon a time, I spent my life cramming as many trips as possible into my annual leave, trying to plan the perfect getaway, seeking big experiences and small adventures. Only to find I was so burnt out from planning the trip, and my itinerary was so jam packed, that I could never fully enjoy it. Then, in 2021, under the Spanish sun, I had a “moment” - and realised it was time for a BIG change.

In 2021, I took a sabbatical from corporate life, leaving behind my role as a qualified journalist and digital marketer.

Then I planned a slow 3-month road trip around Europe - starting in the UK, my partner and I drove to France, then Portugal, and Spain.

That was followed by a long summer exploring Scotland, a solo long distance coastal hike, autumn in Majorca, Sierra Nevada road trip, and winter in Copenhagen.

Along the way, I blogged my travel experiences. Back then it just for fun, somewhere to share my slow travel experiences and photos taken on my crappy old phone.

But then people started to read my stories - and reaching out for custom itineraries, tips, and travel help. At the same time, wonderful brands like Conde Nast Traveller got in touch and I added freelance travel writer to my resume.

Then I started helping brands and hotels with their blogs, content, and SEO.

In 2022 I realised it was time to take life, and this blog, by the horns. So I got really consistent with writing, learnt SEO, and invested in a camera.

A year later, I made the leap and took Wander Somewhere full-time with it’s many facets: blogging, itineraries, freelance writing, and tourism brand work.

Looking back, it was a crazy/terrifying move. But I pinch myself every day; I’m so lucky to do this job.

Since then, we’ve taken another three epic trips into Europe and Spain and Portugal feel as much like home now as the UK.

Alongside my partner we’ve spent many months travelling, making a living capturing and sharing beautiful destinations and hotels - a truly magical little life.
