There are a number of luxury Scottish Highland hotels that have long been on my travel wish list.

Boutique and small stays that offer travellers a taste of Scotland’s wilder places and prettiest villages, all wrapped up somewhat perfectly in an indulgent, and chic, experience. From design-led interiors and crackling fires, to exceptional food and immaculate rooms, trust me, these noteworthy Scottish hotels are all very much worth travelling for.

And if you too love staycations, weekend breaks, or unique road trips to gorgeously wild and peaceful locations, then I think you’ll agree that Highland boltholes listed below are must-stays.

So, today I’m sharing these special stays with you.

Quick Book | My Top Picks For the best Luxury Scottish Highlands Hotels

  1. The Torridon, Wester Ross (best location, northern highlands)

  2. The Kingshouse Hotel, Glencoe (best location, southern highlands)

  3. Foyers Lodge, Loch Ness (best small stay)

  4. Links House, Dornoch (best spa stay)

Hopefully these hotels will inspire your future Scotland travels and add a little escapism to your day!

Each hotel below is independent, unique, and a little remote. I’d call them small, cosy places packed with plenty of soul.

Some of them I’ve personally visited. Whilst others are high on my Scotland bucket list. But I’m absolutely sure each offers a truly indulgent escape that you and I are guaranteed to love.

Unless you’re seeking a weekend getaway, I recommend splitting your time between regions in the Highlands, near Glencoe or Fort William, and then much further north in the Cairngorms National Park. If you have time, also choose a stay in the Western Highland; Torridon is my top choice for an intrinsic wild experience.

The 7 Best Luxury Hotels In The Scottish Highlands

Here are our favourite luxury hotels across the Scottish Highlands, from Glencoe in the south to Sutherland in the north:

1. The Kingshouse Hotel, Glencoe

Read: Kingshouse Hotel, Glencoe, Ballachulish

Best for: cosy-lux rooms and wilderness location

A wonderful stay in the heart of a true Highlands masterpiece, luxury Highland hotel The Kingshouse is one of my favourite stays in Scotland.

With this hotel, you’re truly in the wilds of Glencoe, one of Scotland’s most beautiful and wild places. There are plenty of opportunities for walks nearby, including the most iconic mountain and the famous West Highland Way trail.

Or slow down, relax, and soak in the sensational views from your room.

Having stayed a few times and sampled a choice of rooms, I recommend a Signature Room for an extra touch of luxury. These rooms are a step up in terms of decor and boast private terraces, fluffy robes, king size beds, and welcome G&T on arrival.

Also be sure to eat in the excellent and hearty restaurant and sample a single malt in the cosy bar.

2. Links House, Dornoch

Address: Golf Rd, Dornoch

Best for: five-star service, locale, and spa

Links House by Royal Dornoch is a truly dreamy resort that is located on the NC500 road trip. If you’re looking for a hotel that promises luxury, wellness, and once-in-a-lifetime experiences, this is the place for you.

Guests are also able to personalise their stay, with an itinerary crafted by local experts. From adventure packages to the gorgeous onsite spa, and fine dining restaurant, there are plenty of unique ways to spend your time at Links House.

Consistently achieving five-star reviews from guests, rooms are cosy, lux, and the immaculate decor sets a serene tone. Book a suite for an extra special stay.

3. Foyers Lodge, Loch Ness

Address: General Wade's Military Rd, Foyers, Inverness

Best for: boutique stay and stunning decor

With history stretching back to the 1600’s, Foyers Lodge has been lovingly refurbished and given a luxury upgrade by owners Anna and Philip.

This boutique guest house promises guests a stylish escape where they can ‘forget about the hustle and bustle of city living’ and is the perfect base for a peaceful Scottish Highlands break.

In the heart of the Highlands, overlooking the quiet south side of Loch Ness and surrounded by stunning mountain scenery, Foyers Lodge delivers big on Highlands luxury.

This boutique retreat has 8 individually styled rooms, all featuring luxuriously cosy beds, rain fall showers and the most gorgeous décor.

Plus a chic self-catering serviced apartment, ideal for those looking for more space and privacy. Whilst the exquisitely designed public rooms (hello cosy snug) and roaring fires offer a real opportunity to kick back and simply relax after a day of walking.

This dreamy Highland hideaway is a firm favourite on my staycation wish list!

4. The Torridon, Wester Ross

Address: Annat, By Achnasheen, Wester Ross

Best for: idyllic location and unpretenscious luxury

Tucked away in remote Wester Ross, near the NC500 route, is The Torridon. This high-end hotel boasts seclusion, privacy, and a stunning location. Though family-friendly, I personally think the Torridon is better suited for couples seeking a romantic getaway with touches of cosy-luxury.

This stunning hotel is situated on the shores of Loch Torridon and the surrounding area is true wilderness and mountains, allowing you to really unwind and immerse yourself in the Highland landscape.

5. Glencoe House Hotel, Glencoe

Address: Glencoe, PH49 4HT

Best for: all out luxury and unique dining

Another Glencoe option, this time in the heart of the village, is five-star luxury option Glencoe House Hotel.

Built in 1896, the historic manor and its 10-acre gardens were once home to Lord Strathcona and his family. Nowadays, it is known as one of the best luxury hotels in the Highlands.

Inside is plush yet comfortable and its shared lounges offer guests the opportunity to unwind after a day of exploring. Choose an elegant suite, for five star hotel experience including in-room candlelit dining and breakfast. Or a luxurious lodge, complete with woodburning stove, fully equipped kitchen, private walled garden, hot tubs, and alfresco dining.

6. The Fife Arms, Braemar

Address: Mar Rd, Braemar, Ballater, AB35 5YN

Best for: plush maximalist decor and the outdoors

The Fife Arms needs little introduction - this boutique, luxury Highlands hotel has become a bucket list destination in its own right.

Tucked away in the Cairngorms National Park, it’s the perfect hotel for days spent outdoors. And evenings by a roaring fire, glass of whisky firmly in hand.

There are 46 rooms and suites, each individually decorated and inspired by the surrounding Highland. Rooms are plush, luxe, and grand, with big comfortable beds. Packed full of art, cosy textiles, and striking decor - this is not a place for minimalists!

But it is invitingly cosy and gives nod to the hotel’s 19th-century history.

Onsite, there’s an exceptionally well-stocked whisky bar, pub serving delicious food, and a dining room showcasing the best in Scottish produce.

7. Lundies House, Tongue

Address: Tongue, Lairg, IV27 4XF

Best for: immaculate decor and remote landscape

Another luxury Highland hotel, this time much further north.

Lundies House is situated in the Kyle of Tongue, Lairg - just about as far north as it’s possible to go on the Scottish mainland. Here the landscape is wild, unspoilt and ruled by nature.

Once an old manse, this stylish hotel is perfect for anyone looking to escape to both countryside and coast. Featuring a mix of unique loft spaces, studios (I’m obsessed with The Flora) and cosy apartments, rooms are minimalist but luxurious.

The roll top bathtubs, vintage velvet chairs, marble showers and never ending views across those impressive Highland landscapes have me seriously hooked.

Lundies House - the perfect basecamp for an adventure on Scotland’s most northern coast.
