The first thing to know is that many hotels in Portree are located within walking distance of the town centre, making exploring its best parts, like the harbour, attractions, and local shops, incredibly easy. Other accommodation is located around the bay, which means a short drive from town, though the stunning loch views more than compensate.

Plus, many of the hotels in Portree offer exceptional dining experiences with in-house restaurants that serve some of the best food on the island.

Location: 13 Bosville Terrace, Portree IV51 9DG

Best for: stylish town centre stay

A stylish hotel overlooking the harbour, the Bosville Hotel is ideal for exploring Portree and the scenic Isle of Skye.

The hotel features 20 beautifully designed rooms, from cosy doubles to incredibly spacious premium rooms.

Each offer luxurious furnishings and indulgent touches, with Highland Soap toiletries, rainfall showers, Skye Weavers textiles, and a full breakfast as standard. For those harbour views, be sure to book a top-floor premium room (pictured above).

The Bosville Hotels’ onsite restaurant, Dulse & Brose, serves delicious dishes made with locally sourced ingredients. Whilst the extensive drinks menu in the downstairs Merchants Bar features dozens of Scottish gins, single malts, and cocktails.

There’s no dedicated parking at this Portree hotel, so its perhaps best suited for those arriving by bus or on a Skye tour. But it’s my top pick of hotels in Portree.

2. Marmalade Hotel

Best for: boutique bolthole

This stunning former country house has been beautifully renovated and is now a boutique hotel in Portree, with contemporary luxury at its heart.

Set amongst acres of private gardens, the revamped manor sits along a strikingly modern annexe and features 34 beautifully designed rooms. Each is complete with luxury extras like Nespresso coffee machines, Highland Soap toiletries, 300 thread count cotton sheets, and Bose sound systems.

This hotel in Portree is located only a five-minute walk from the harbour and has free parking onsite. Also highly recommend.

3. Cuillin Hills Hotel

Location: Scorrybreac Rd, Portree IV51 9QU

Best for: idyllic stay

Situated in a lofty position on the cliffs overlooking Portree Bay, Cuillin Hills Hotel offers beautiful views over the water to the mountains beyond.

This hotel in Portree has 39 en-suite rooms, all stylishly decorated and well-equipped with the amenities you’d expect from a hotel of this standard: luxury bathrobes, super king beds, White Company toiletries, and rain fall showers in every room.

Many of the rooms have sea views, some even overlooking the colourful houses in Portree harbour. If you can, I would say the sea view rooms are most definitely worth the extra cost.

In an idyllic position just a 5-minute walk from town, this Portree hotel is a popular choice with travellers and for good reason.

4. Orchard House B&B

Location: 1 East Park, Portree IV51 9NW

Best for: modern small stay

Offering four stunning bedrooms, Orchard House B&B is another wonderful Portree stay.

Each room is beautifully decorated with a mix of modern and traditional furnishings. You’ll also find luxury touches in this Portree bed and breakfast, like Sony smart TVs, a hospitality tray, and mini fridge with chilled bottled water and fresh milk.

Whilst en-suite bathrooms have either power showers or big tubs, with lovely toiletries, and fresh, fluffy towels.

Situated in a quiet residential area on the outskirts of Portree, it’s a short 15-minute walk into the town centre.

5. Taigh Scalpaigh B&B

Location: 6B Heatherfield, Penifiler, Portree, IV51 9NE

Best for: luxury small stay

Newly built, this luxury B&B looks and feels very much like a small boutique hotel.

Three double rooms are contemporary and spacious, with super comfy king-sized beds. Whilst en-suite bathrooms are complete with rainfall showers and complimentary toiletries.

Breakfast includes delicious continental options like croissants and fresh fruit. Or add scrambled eggs with smoked salmon or porridge to your morning meal and fuel up for a day of exploring Skye.

Situated around the bay, from Taigh Scalpaigh it’s only a five-minute drive into Portree centre. Built in the grounds of a family croft, expect peace, tranquillity, and stunning views - you’ll see the Old Man of Storr from the dining room.

6. Skeabost House Hotel

Location: Skeabost Bridge, Isle of Skye IV51 9NP

Best for: luxury retreat

Located right on the waterfront, overlooking Loch Snizort, Skeabost House Hotel is a five-star luxury hotel in Portree.

Surrounded by breathtaking countryside, Skeabost House features 21 unique and individually styled bedrooms, ranging from modern doubles to deluxe kings with a sea view.

Once a Victorian hunting lodge, an elegant renovation has transformed this Portree hotel into a boutique retreat, complete with spacious lounges and open fires, a cocktail bar, afternoon tea, and fine dining restaurant.

If you can tear yourself away from Skeabost House, its just a short 15-minute drive to Portree.

7. Shore Cottage

Location: Penifiler, Portree, IV51 9NF

Best for: exclusive use

If you’re looking for a luxury self-catering stay in Portree, Shore Cottage is a wonderful choice.

This elegant and modern home is located in a quiet coastal area, just a few miles from Portree town centre and the harbour.

Available for exclusive use only, this vacation home is both spacious and immaculately furnished, with three comfortable bedrooms, wood burning stove, and a fully equipped kitchen.

You can also enjoy stunning views of the bay from Shore Cottage’s balcony or terrace. The light and bright design is the perfect blend of contemporary but cosy, making this Skye cottage a perfect waterside retreat.

8. Canowindra B&B

Location: Penifiler, Portree, IV51 9LG

Best for: peaceful small stay

Situated a five-minute drive from Portree and the harbour, Canowindra B&B offers a cosy stay in a peaceful area.

This is a wonderful spot to relax after a day of exploring - there’s also a spacious lounge area for guests to enjoy.

9. The Skye Inn

Location: Springfield Road, Portree, IV51 9QX

Best for: a simple stay

A simple, no-fuss guest house, The Skye Inn has very good reviews, particularly for those planning a one-night stopover. Very reasonably priced, its a great hotel in Portree to rest your head after a day of exploring.

Each of the spacious 24 rooms features a private bathroom, tea and coffee facilities, and a full breakfast is included.

Plus, it’s only a short walk into Portree town centre.

10. Bracken Hide Hotel

Location: Struan Rd, Portree IV51 9EG

Best for: glamping stay

If you’re looking for a unique hotel in Portree and a connection to nature, then check out Bracken Hide Hotel.

This hotel is a collection of 27 gorgeous glamping cabins, in a stunning hillside setting overlooking Portree, providing breathtaking views over the bay and mountains.

Each cabin is beautifully decorated, with modern furnishings, underfloor heating, and comfy beds.

The hotel has a range of facilities, including an outdoor plunge pool, timber clad saunas, and small cinema room perfect for rainy days.

If you’re looking for a bite to eat, Bracken Hide Hotel also has a restaurant, which serves up a varied and delicious menu. Whilst you can also enjoy a drink or two in the onsite bar, which has a great selection of whisky and cocktails.

And though remote, its only a 20-minute walk into Portree town centre. Do note there is a short walk from car to cabin, though the hotel do offer assistance.
