Dundee’s Best Coffee Shops & Cafes

Höfn

Our favourite city centre coffee shop, Höfn is an aesthetic spot with friendly staff, a counter of sweet treats, and top-notch coffee made with locally roasted beans.

Founder and Kis coffee roaster Mark was part of the team at Unorthodox Roasters, and his expertise shows. The coffee served here - from flat whites to pour-overs and espressos - is excellent.

Though the coffee is a highlight, it’s complemented by a small but brilliantly curated food menu that includes Scand-style open sandwiches with inventive fillings (we love the pastrami), salads, loaded porridge bowls, and a range of freshly baked treats, from traybakes to cinnamon buns.

The vibe is always friendly, with warm service, shared tables, and a general buzz that keeps this Dundee coffee shop a popular choice with locals.

An essential stop on any Dundee itinerary, stop here on your way between the city centre and waterfront attractions.

Mana

What can we say about Mana? We visited this speciality Dundee coffee shop recently and haven’t stopped raving about the flat whites since - in fact, I’d go so far as to say that this might be one of my top speciality coffee shops in Scotland.

It might even rival Birch or Unorthodox Roasters. And I don’t say that lightly.

Inside, Mana is an eclectic mix of coffee shop and running wear - you’ll see cycling highlights playing on a projector as you sip. It's a vibey little spot with a decent scattering of low tables and stools, minimalist aesthetics leaning towards Scandi, and a counter jam-packed with bakes and sandwiches. During the week, there’s also a great lunch deal on focaccia sandwiches and soup.

But coffee is king here, and they do it so well.

You’ll find all your favourite beverages here, from classic flat whites and cortados to pour-overs, iced lattes, chai, and batch brew.

Located near the waterfront, it’s an ideal stop during a Dundee day out, right on the route between the V&A and the city centre.

Noch Coffee Co.

Tucked away in the city’s vibrant West End, Noch is a small neighbourhood coffee shop that serves excellent coffee and seriously cosy vibes. We visited on a rainy day after a trip to Verdant Works, and grabbed a seat in the window, happily watching the rain fall while tucking into our flat whites.

The coffee here is perfectly made, with options like classic lattes complemented by other beverages, including pour-overs, cold brews, iced tea, matcha and chai.

Staff are super friendly, and lunch options centre around creative sourdough and focaccia sandwiches. If there’s a negative, it’s that seating is limited, so be prepared to take away.

EH9 Espresso

Given its reputation as a Dundee coffee shop institution and how many people had told us about this spot, we were super excited for flat whites at EH9 Espresso. And it did not disappoint!

Expertly chosen beans, beautifully made coffee, from velvety flat whites to carefully crafted pour-overs. On the food side, there are simple yet satisfying offerings: fresh pastries, bagels, and baked goods that pair perfectly with a morning or afternoon caffeine fix. We highly recommend the generous slabs of chocolate brownies - very moreish.

With its friendly vibe and location on the trendy Perth Road, EH9 Espresso is one of those cafés that embodies the city’s welcoming café culture.

Stenecki Coffee

Located just a stone’s throw from the city centre towards the shorefront, Stenecki is the perfect Dundee cafe for those seeking a delicious brunch and cosy coffee experience.

Inside, the characterful, warm cafe is a thoroughly relaxed spot, with heaps of tables and counter seating amid a sea of leafy plants and fairy lights.

The food menu features crowd-pleasing favourites that deliver big on flavour - eggs benny and black pudding on sourdough (brunch heaven), granola bowls, full breakfasts, shakshuka, and Polish dumplings (a nod to the owner's heritage) alongside freshly baked cakes and sweet treats.

Specials rotate daily and with the seasons, so there’s always something new to try.

Coffee-wise, we chose our usual flat whites, which were perfectly frothy, and the coffee, roasted in-house, was smooth and moreish. But there’s a far more adventurous beverage menu here, from Cherry Coke espressos to Biscoff milkshakes.

Combine a visit to Stenecki alongside the nearby V&A and esplanade.
