How To Really Appreciate The Scenery When You’re Traveling

Something that’s important to remember when you’re traveling is that although the destination you’re heading towards might be exciting and the main point of your trip, it’s a shame to miss out on the journey itself - after all, you might come across all kinds of gorgeous scenery and fun things to do that you can so easily miss out on if you’re just hurrying from place to place.

In fact, really appreciating the scenery is so important for a lot of people that they deliberately look for ways to ensure they’re able to do it when they’re on a trip, and the good news is that there are actually plenty of options open to you. With that in mind, here are some of the best ways to ensure you appreciate the scenery when you’re traveling rather than missing out on it and regretting it later on. Read on to find out more.

Plan Ahead

Most of the time, people are going to plan their trips, at least to some extent. Yes, some might plan every minute of every day and others might be a lot more fluid with their ideas, but some form of planning usually takes place. If it doesn’t, that’s a sure way to miss out on things, and the scenery when you’re traveling is very possibly one of those things.

Rather than planning to get from A to B in as short a time as possible, why not make the journey part of your vacation, and spend a little more time on it?

You can make sure you don’t miss out on anything that you want to see, plus you’ll feel less rushed and stressed between destinations. It could make all the difference in how you remember and feel about your trip, and it’s also going to mean that you have to make a plan in the first place, and as we’ve seen, that’s a great idea to make the most of your time away from home.

To really make sure it happens, why not plan a motorcycle tour as part of your trip? You’ll see the scenery and experience something new, so it’s a win-win.

Slow Down

Linked to the idea above is a great suggestion - slow down. When you do that, you’ll be able to take in a lot more around you, rather than just trying to tick off as much as possible from your to-do list. There will be things you absolutely want to see, but there’s no rush, and you definitely don’t have to make your vacation so structured.

There are a few different reasons to get away from it all, but one that’s truly important is that you’ll get the chance to relax and unwind, and if that’s not something you can do in your usual everyday life (and it won’t be for most people as we’re all so busy) then it could be a great thing for your health - physical and mental.

If you slow down you’ll be able to relax a lot more and really appreciate the fact that you’ve got no deadlines, you don’t have to be anywhere at a specific time, you can ignore your social media and email, and just breathe. Taking in the scenery while you do that is no bad thing.

Engage Your Senses

When you think about really appreciating the scenery wherever you might be, the sense that’s sure to come to mind before anything else has to be sight. You’ll be looking at the scenery and enjoying how gorgeous it all is, and that’s a great start, but there’s a lot more you can do, even if you’re not sure what that might be when you first start thinking about it.

It’s good to look at a view, and it’s great to see as much as possible when you’re traveling, but you can actually use your other senses to ensure you don’t miss out on anything at all and that you can appreciate every single element of what’s around you.

Take your hearing, for example; a gorgeous view can really be enhanced when you listen to the sounds of nature around you, from running water in a stream to birds singing and so much more. Or what about your sense of smell? You’ll be able to smell flowers and plants, for example, and that’s going to help make the view even better.

Use as many of your senses as you can and really dig down into what makes the scenery so stunning, and you’ll get a much better appreciation of it.

Capture The Moment

This idea might seem like a surprising one because in most cases you’ll be told not to stare at the scenery through a screen or viewfinder, but instead to appreciate it in the moment and for real. That is good advice, and it’s definitely the right thing to do, but that doesn’t mean you can’t snap a few great shots of the view to enjoy later.

By capturing the moment and then putting your screens and devices away to look at everything in the flesh, as it were, you’ll get the best of both worlds - you’ll be able to see everything as it should be and not miss out, but you’ll also be able to take a souvenir of that gorgeous view home with you. Memory is a notoriously tricky thing, and even if you’re sure you’re remembering things right, it could be that you’re mistaken.

So having a photograph or a short video that reminds you of exactly what it all looked like is fantastic - you can look at it any time you want, and you’ll be able to recreate the positive feelings you had when you were there originally, which will improve your overall mental health as well.

Make It The Adventure

So far we’ve really looked at how to appreciate the scenery when you’re traveling from one place to another, but what if you were to make the scenery your entire reason for traveling and turn it into an adventure?

You might want to opt for a hiking vacation, for example, or choose to go camping rather than opting for a hotel room. Perhaps you’ll try the motorcycle tour we mentioned earlier and make it the sole reason for getting away from it all. When you make the scenery the reason for taking a trip, you’ll definitely want to appreciate it more, and you’ll have all the time you need to do it.
